Scientiae Carnival

Scientiae Carnival

Comment policy

The topic of this carnival has the potential to spark both respectful debate and ad hominem bashing. Please keep your comments to the former, and skip the latter - many women in STEM have to deal with that kind of thing enough in the real world as it is.

Troll comments will be swiftly deleted on this blog; however, if you come across one that we haven't got to yet, please don't let them destroy the respectful tone. They're not worth our time or effort.

Hosts of the carnival have the right to delete whatever comments on their blogs that they find to be too offensive or disruptive.

Thanks.

Call for posts: March 1 carnival

The first Scientiae carnival will be hosted by me, skookumchick, over at my blog "Rants of a Feminist Engineer." Please follow these instructions to submit posts; posts are due by Feb 27. There is no specific theme for this first carnival, so cast your imaginations far and wide!

The carnival will be published March 1. (Hopefully. :-) )

Contributing to the carnival

The carnival is published on or around the 1st of each month.

Posts are welcome from women and men and everyone in between if they focus on the topic of the Carnival. In general, hosts have the editorial right to choose what are appropriate or inappropriate posts to include.

To submit posts to the carnival, please email the "permalink" URL of your post to scientiaecarnival [a] gmail [dt] com . (This is the main way we receive posts.)

Posts for the carnival should be written and submitted (unless the host says otherwise) 2 days before the carnival is due to be posted. That's full days, none of this 24 hr stuff. ;-) This is to give the hosts time to compile the carnival; late submissions may be included at the discretion of the host. (Some of us have dissertations and papers and grants to write... ;-) )

Thanks!

Welcome to Scientiae!

This is a blog carnival that compiles posts written about the broad topic of "women in STEM," (STEM=science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and may include posts:

  • stories about being a woman in STEM

  • exploring gender and STEM academia

  • living the scientific academic life as well as the rest of life

  • discussing how race, sexuality, age, nationality and other social categories intersect with the experience of being a woman in STEM

  • sharing feminist perspectives on science and technology

  • exploring feminist science and technology studies
  • Both men and women (and anyone in-between) are welcome to contribute to the carnival as long as the topics are relevant and respectful.

Alerts to carnival posts will be posted at this website.

For information about blog carnivals, read this.

For information on how to submit a post to the carnival, see this page. With questions about this specific carnival, or to volunteer to host the carnival, email scientiaecarnival [a] gmail [dt] com.

Welcome to the carnival, and enjoy reading!
