Batsignal: Looking for a great host who can sub in immediately

The next intended host for Scientiae was going to be lost clown, but she has let me know she can't do it. So I'm looking for someone to take over the Dec 1 carnival IMMEDIATELY -- the call for posts needs to be submitted and then the carnival compiled to be published for Dec 1. Please please please if you can help, email Scientiae directly. I'll send you a hosting guide, and be happy to answer any questions you have.

I am also looking for hosts for 2009 -- if you'd like to host Scientiae, please also email Scientiae along with months that would be good for you and I'll do my best to coordinate.

Thanks to all volunteers, and particularly to someone who is willing to step in at the last minute for December...

Update: It's going to be ISIS! She volunteered first, and I'm psyched. Thanks to all the folks who volunteered at the last minute -- I'm going to follow up with you to see if you'd be willing to host some other month. THANKS again!!

October Scientiae may be lost, but November Scientiae won't be

Everyone, I am not sure what happened to the October Scientiae. I know Jen has been dealing with a bunch of personal stuff, so she may have decided that dealing with Scientiae was too much.

So that we don't lose two months, I've just invited Jane of See Jane Compute to start the November Carnival. Depending on what we hear from Jen and what Jane is willing to do as host, those of you who submitted posts for October might have them rolled into the November, or there might be a much-delayed October carnival posted sometime. I'll let you know.

Thanks for your patience. After all, sometimes RL gets in the way of blogging, and blogging is supposed to be fun or helpful but can also be a burden. If you're so inclined, send a shout-out of good wishes to Jen as she struggles with her real life burdens.

Cheers.

It's Scientiae's birthday!

Wow, can you believe that Scientiae has been going for almost a year??! It was back on Feb 13 that I proposed a carnival on women in STEM, and there was tremendous and immediate enthusiasm. The first carnival was posted on March 1, and it hasn't stopped since (although it has slowed a little - now compiled once a month rather than twice).

So what should we do to mark this occasion? Jokerine has already hosted a reflective party, and very nice it was too.

Instead, let me reflect on the fact that March is the beginning of spring (yes, really!), a season for new beginnings. Let me solicit in particular posts that focus on "renewal." In particular, I'm thinking about discussions about what you find compelling about the science/work that you do, or what will get you through this next year, and what you hope for yourself (or for your profession, or for your discipline, or...) this time next year.

As always, general posts or posts that otherwise don't follow the theme are also welcome.

Send in your posts via the normal methods by Feb 29 5 pm EST (that's a freebie day!). And, if you'd like to be a host for Scientiae in Year 2, let me know also.

Hooray, hooray, Scientiae! Now entering its Terrible Twos!

2/23/08: Edited to add: I have just been alerted to the fact that I forgot to say WHERE the March Scientiae was being hosted. Oops. It will be at my blog, Rants of a Feminist Engineer. Thanks for the heads-up!

Fall Scientiae Hosts

Thanks to the folks who volunteered to host Scientiae this fall. Your hosts will be:

Oct 1: Wayfarer Scientista
Nov 1: Green Gabbro
Dec 1: A K8, A Cat, A Mission
Jan 1: Jokerine

Get your posting hats on for these folks, and thanks for participating!!

Call for Scientiae hosts!

It's that time again where Scientiae needs a few good bloggers to host the carnival over the fall!  I'm looking for people to host the now-once-monthly carnival, so if you would be willing to help out, please email Scientiae (the email is in the sidebar) with the dates that would work best for you.  We can also be a little flexible for the publish date - a day or so either side of the 1st of the month is fine if it would make your life easier and more likely to volunteer to host. ;-)

Hope to hear from you soon!
